Post Graduate (Licensed)Practical Nurse, Specialty Pediatric Home Care
As a Post Graduate Licensed Practical Nurse with 18 yrs. experience in Pediatric care, I monitor vital signs, have worked with vented children, worked with children on apnea monitors,Bi-Pap, Passey-Muir valve, cappping of trachs, pulse-oximetry, humidified air (cool & warm), O2 administration and safety. I've administered meds as ordered via g-t/j-tube, by mouth and Intramuscularly. I check MD orders against 485 and keep them updated and report any changes to RN Supervisor. I do general physical assessment, wound care (as needed). I do Range of Motion (if needed) usually passive, applied braces to lower extremities, and worked with children with casts, including frequent repositioning to all clients thru the night. I report to parents,at the end if my shift of any new changes in status. I've worked with children with Menkes Syndrome, Treacher Collins Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, failure to thrive, Retts Syndrome, Pierre Robin Sequence,Spina Bifida, and Phrenic Nerve Pacer. I Suction nasal/oral/tracheal as Rx'd, when needed, and clean Sux equipment after my shift and change out once a wk. or as Rx'd. My duties as a nurse also included, straight cath on both male and female clients,as well as monitor vital signs and keep child acclimated to surroundings in a home care setting. I comfort the child when needed, and maintain open communication to parent(s), and RN Supervisor on a regular basis. I occassionally re-order supplies from Customer Service Supply houses or put supplies received, in proper places, and keep parents updated on need of depleted supplies, or medications. I report to oncoming nurse if there is one scheduled, as well as family. I keep family aware of new meds ordered and side effects to watch for after administration
