MD, Freelance writer (2 years)CEO, Founder of iThink Corporation,
As a physician, I have had experience as a clinician for 12 year. I believe it is my duty and privilege to promote efficiency, evidence-based practice, and honesty in the practice of medicine. I have had extensive experience in the review of medical charts for patients, as a patient advocate, and in medico-legal settings. I have written extensively in the past as an advocate for patient rights, in response to attempts to indemnify physicians for bad practice and negligence. I am experienced in public speaking, and have been a keynote speaker at the annual Executive Board Meeting of the Catholic Foundation. I have also accepted invitations to participate in panel discussions at my church, on relevant questions of medical ethics. As a concerned physician and private citizen, I lobby my legislators, many times in concert with Sister Donna Gunn, now retired from her position as official lobbyist for Catholic Charities. My current career goal is to participate in either an administrative position in patient care, or as a patient advocate in health policy initiatives. I have served on several civic boards, and was the Medical Liaison for Catholic Charities (Diocese of Jackson) during the Katrina crisis. I have a relatively profound knowledge of other subjects, including sustainable energy, business development, and subjects related to certain areas of medical reform, particularly mental health and development of the centralized trauma system in Mississippi, which took place under the direction of Dr. Rick Carlton, an attending physician during my residency in Emergency Medicine at UMC. I hope to find a position which will allow me to use the knowledge I have gained in participation of the advance of standardization of best practices in medicine. I want the opportunity to be a voice for better patient care, particularly in the areas of advancing home care and monitoring of chronic diseases in the elderly, allowing a better quality of life for patients and their caregivers and family members, and utilization of these care models to decrease unnecessary fiscal waste in an area that is presently a key contributor to the growing cost of care in a limited health care budget, in light of unsustainable entitlements.
