RssEnvironmental Specialist

1. 2008- Present: Current duties include providing technical guidance to McConnell AFB personnel during their daily use of hazardous materials. My expertise covers all aspects of material usage, from product receipt/storage/handling, to the eventual disposal and accountability of hazardous wastes. I assure the proper identification of hazardous properties by determining their flammability, reactivity, corrosivity, and toxicity. Once these properties are determined, I ensure that proper storage and special handling procedures comply with requisite documentation and tracking standards by performing annual HazMat inspections to every active shop on base. My experience with the regulations on the management and storage of hazardous materials enables me to expertly assist McConnell hazardous property users with their decisions on where to store hazardous materials, etc. My oversight of their decision processes ensures McConnell's management and storage of hazardous materials is accomplished in accordance with federal, state, and local policies. Every aspect of hazardous product identification, storage, re-packaging, and labeling is stringently enforced. I also inspect all storage areas to ensure their compliance with applicable regulations. I currently manage the EESOH-MIS (Enterprise Environmental, Safety and occupational-Health Management Information system) program at McConnell AFB, In this role I am responsible for identifying and properly tracking hazardous materials, and also collecting and reporting all requisite data to state and federal agencies and higher headquarters. My expertise allows me to train new EESOH-MIS users and personnel on the GPC procedures for purchasing hazardous materials and accurately determining the quantities necessary. I closely interact with Bio-Environmental, Safety, Fire Department, and Contracting during HMMP activities and oversight of McConnell’s HAZMAT Plan. I set up EESOH-MIS shop accounts and user access rights, keep track of recent MSDS’s, and send them to the data stewards for EESOH-MIS entry. I’m available during extended business hours to resolve shop HazMat problems and to review EESOH-MIS shop accounts and material requests for completeness and accuracy. I also create and print barcodes for all shops and help every HazMart (suppliers) with their questions or issues. Since contractors do not require barcodes to track the chemicals brought on base, I manually record usage of all their chemicals in EESOH-MIS (from their monthly inputs) and assist with hazardous waste as needed. As an integral member of McConnell’s ESOHCAMP program, I have conducted multiple internal and external reviews for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 assessments, and have been recognized by previous ESOHCAMP assessment teams with their award for exceptional performance and innovation. My leadership skills enable my proficiency and knowledge of OSHA, EPCRA, and HAZCOM,RCRA,CFR, universal waste, EPA, KDHE, requirements make me a sought-after contributor to Team McConnell’s hazardous material program. My skill in maintaining excellent working relationships ensures a cooperative environment with a variety of organizations, to include manufactures, regulators, I also interface with inspectors, higher headquarters, and regional EESOH-MIS helpdesk; I set up EESOH-MIS shop accounts and user access rights, keep track of recent MSDS’s, and send them to the data stewards for EESOH-MIS entry.
