Seniors that are graduating are forced to make the decision of what they want to do with their lives after high school. I have known what I’ve wanted to do since the first grade. I am planning to attend either Shawnee State University or the University of Rio Grande, where I will major in “Healthy Living”. My education and experience I have had has gotten me ready for college. I get the enjoyment out of helping people when they are hurt or sick. When I was young my brother, sister, and I would play doctor. We had pretend doctor supplies that were made out of plastic. We each took turns being the doctor and getting to use the supplies. There was always a patient, nurse, and doctor when we would play. My parents kept lots of band-aids like they were nothing. We used band-aids for any and everything beestings, paper cuts, smashed finger, or just for pretend because we thought the band-aids were pretty. When we were young we sure did love them band-aids. Now I am currently enrolled in the “PCT” program at the jvs. I have learned a lot of skills anywhere from vital signs; transferring patients with the gait belt, positioning patients, etc. meanwhile I am starting to learn other skills such as EKG’s, EEG’s, etc. I have completed and received my certificate for the “TCEP” training. I’ve had experience working with patience in the nursing home when I had to do my clinical. As soon as I go over all my skills I will then go and take my state test so that I can become an “STNA”. After I graduate, further education will be required. I have already taken my “TCEP” course. I’m going to either be attending Shawnee State University of the University of Rio Grande. I am also interested in taking some LPN classes that are available here at the trade school. Becoming a registered nurse is my career goal. The interest I had in nursing began in my early childhood around ages 6 or 7. I was curious why people went to the nurses and doctors would make them feel better. After I realized that a doctor was helping the people I become interested in the nursing field. Because, I like helping people and making people feel better. As I approach my graduation, I am excited and ready to begin my future.
