Description
Earned a PhD in mathematics education from the University of Texas, Austin while a national leader in a movement to improve K-12 mathematics curriculum. Activities included revising standards, numerous presentations at national and international conferences, multiple publications, and creation of new undergraduate and graduate teacher education courses in curriculum development, instructional strategies, assessment, and mathematics. * Redesigned K-12 and college mathematics curriculum to meet the needs of at risk students. Project outcomes resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of students who passed the courses and mastered the math with confidence, were retained through graduation, and pursued and completed college majors in STEM fields. * Successfully drove over twenty large and complex projects to completion on time and on budget, including: * A two-year, 200 human subject research study that resulted in important insights and program improvements (University of Texas, Austin) * An 18-month accreditation project for over 100 degree programs at a major university (Tufts University). Project outcome: A full 10-year accreditation approval. * Skillfully negotiated the treacherous waters of major change that resulted in a smooth transition to the desired outcomes with strong employee buy in (Tufts University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, University of Texas, Austin). * Insightful and accurate process analysis outcomes and highly effective designs for new, efficient systems. The concise, easily understood instructional documents I wrote, and the user-friendly, easy-to-navigate project website that I designed and programmed (that housed over 30,000 documents and artifacts) led to a smooth and trouble-free transition to the new systems. In addition, the project tracking strategies I created made it quick and easy to compile an accurate status report for each of the 129 projects at a moment's notice. * Saved Wentworth Institute of Technology from losing its accreditation status. This threat was the result of the institution's failure to meet requirements and deadlines. I worked directly with the accreditation agencies to identify acceptable remedial actions, and, working with faculty and administration, met those requirements within the negotiated timeframe. To prevent future threats to accreditation, I developed a 5-year plan of action that included a portfolio of organized procedures, timelines, and deliverables for each of the 21 accrediting agencies.
