COVER LETTER: To Whom It May Concern , I am writing to appeal the recent letter that I received of disqualification of social security benefits for my son, Stephen T. Oliver. It is my hope that we can settle this matter promptly, as he is still in school, unable to work, and need this money to live on. My income alone is not enough to support us both. Stephen has chronic asthma, to the extent of being dependent on his medications, Singulair and Albuterol inhalers. He also has learning disabilities due to having ADHD. He was diagnosed with ADHD/Bipolar/Schizophrenia, and has a very difficult time interacting with people and understanding things that other kids at his age level have no issues with. He is eighteen years old, but as stated from his previous doctor, Dr. John Baka, Stephen is years behind in his mental capabilities than he should be at his age. He has the mind of a young child. Having ADHD adversely affects him in his daily life, to the point of having a hard time keeping up with normal studies in school, understanding his teachers and the lessons, and controlling his frustrations due to all of this. I regularly receive calls from the school because of these issues and I have to talk to him and try to help him understand what he has done for them to have to call me. Stephen is constantly a victim of bullying and being teased by other kids due to the fact that he is a slow learner and is not on a normal age appropriate level. As you may know, this can be very hard on a child who cannot understand why these things are going on. This, along with the frequent asthma attacks and dependence on medications, makes finding and maintaining employment impossible for him. In conclusion, I ask that you please review the enclosed documents from the Southwestern Behavioral Center, which explains in medical detail why he qualifies for social security benefits and which further highlights his conditions of ADHD, bipolar, schizophrenia. If I can provide any other information that will help with this case and appeal please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks for your time and consideration of reading this letter of appeal. Sincerely, Lavonda K. Nolan
