My experience at the company made for a smooth transition, even though I had to start from scratch, and build the department up again. I was able to keep the plant running without issue. * Determined what vendors to buy from and measured their performance. * Negotiated all prices and purchasing contracts. Was responsible for placing daily purchase orders and following them up through delivery. * Established carriers and freight rates on all inbound freight. Was responsible for using the most cost-effective carrier. * Used EOQ practices to optimize cost-saving opportunities. * Established make-and-hold and consignment orders to help control inventory costs and limited warehouse space. * Established a cycle count process with the accounting department to help with inventory errors and minimize out-of-stocks. strengthen our buying power and cover our fixed costs of production. * Calculated costs of finished goods that included freight and profit. * Sourced out bids and followed processes to get on the mailing list and to get products on the approved to bid list. Submitted quotes as required and followed up on them until bids were awarded. * Developed relationships with food distribution companies to get approval from them to stock and bid on our items. * Obtained bid tabulations that contained bid results.
