Have previous experience as a Technical Writer spanning over three decades including the oil & gas, nuclear operation, chemical & nuclear waste, and defense industries with a proven track record of having in-depth working knowledge drafting documents no matter how complex, including operations, maintenance, and engineering documents while editing specifications with a focus on accuracy, updating various types of manuals. QUALIFICATIONS: * While acting as advisor to the IT department, was recognized by the IT department head as instrumental in the conversion from WordPerfect to MS Word for a 3000-employee government facility. * Highly trained and experienced in the application of human factors involved in procedure writing to improve performance, reduce errors, and ensure safety. * Created Word, and Excel templates and macros using VBA and that resulted in reduced document production times by as much as 50%, and increased consistency and accuracy for all typists and technical writers in several divisions. * Created writer's guides that applied human factors and industry good practices to ensure consistency and quality among multiple writers. * Edited the work of other writers to ensure consistency, quality, and proper application of department guidelines. * Acknowledged by supervisors to have improved the writing of all other writers in the department. * Ability to communicate with various types of people which has aided in diffusing situations, cultivating client relationships and having positive interactions with colleagues. * Holds advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FrameMaker, Acrobat Professional, Visio, WordPerfect, Windows, and SharePoint. * Thrives in environments requiring the ability to prioritize concurrent tasks both calmly and efficiently. 11/2015 - 10/2016 Semi-Retired This forced retirement was due to the collapse in oil prices. Literally hundreds of thousands of jobs were lost and most have still not come back. Most of my company was laid off before me.
