Professional Summary Skills Experience Dorm supervisor 03/2010 to Present Rio Grande State Center ICF - Harlingen, Texas My responsibilities as a dorm supervisor is to make sure the staff work as a team and always back each other up. Prior to my shift I need to see how many staff will be needed to cover the floor that day and I give the staff their assignments. I am not a Supervisor that just does paperwork, I help my staff on the floor due to behaviors working in a Mental Disability environment. The clients come first and my shift paperwork can be done in between things or when people are asleep. I currently work the night shift from 530pm to 6am sometimes longer. The main function of this facility is to try and teach clients as much independence as possible. Our goal is for them to have learned enough life skills and control of their behaviors that they can leave our facility and go live in a group home where they are still supervised by staff but some are able to get jobs and live in more of a home environment. I also make sure the staff is doing the trainings that have been assigned to the client to reach a certain goal. I usually Supervise approximately 16 staff, they respect me as a Supervisor, but also know I will always be there to back them up with whatever they need, whether it's changing a client or intervene in a behavior. I really love my job as well as the clients, but I have a shoulder replacement and we are starting to get very violent clients and I feel the staff deserve someone that can help them 100% and I feel I am not able to give them that, That is the sole reason of even looking into something else, but I really need to work in a less aggressive environment. I also approve my staffs tone when they work overtime, call in sick, etc. I am also responsible for doing evaluations on all the staff every 6 months. Ian very good at multi tasking, putting more important things first and less important later, but it all gets finished by the end of the day. I have experience with emailing, the computer system that the facility has, a long with word, excel and word perfect. I use multi line phone systems I do the required shift reports that are due at the end of every shift. I feel I have good communication skills. I speak to the clients just lime I speak to my staff so that they do not feel diffwent than others when spoken too. I joke around with my staff just because this job is really serious, but my staff also know if I see something not being done or for whatever reason I will call them in and speak to them, I believe a good Supervisor makes staff work harder and also the turnover rate is very low compared to other shifts. The main reason staff leave is due to not feeling respected by their supervisor or do not feel that they have someone that will speak up for them about a situation if having problems that are not being handled by their Supervisor. Who you work under makes a great impact on how ur staffs work ethic is going to be. My Supervisor is Chauncey Smith Phone # 956 364-8333 Franchise Owner 07/2000 to 01/2010
