My career in government service was shared among the U.S. Bureau of Mines the U.S. Department of Energy and CDC/NIOSH. Over that time I received a collection of outstanding performance and special achievement awards. My work has primarily consisted of developing electronic hardware and software devices which were focused on improving the safety and health of the nation's coal miners. A few of the more significant developments were coal mine communication devices trapped miner location systems a cable-less pipeline survey tool a computer network for controlling mining machines an inertial gyro-based mining machine control system a high wall deformation system a borehole video system a proximity warning system a remote controlled bulldozer/video system and a work-zone analysis system.
