Description
Conduct all outpatient clinical dietetics activities for a veteran population needing education for control of diabetes lipids weight renal complications enteral nutrition and other therapeutic nutrition education. Complete individualize patient care plans using electronic medical record charting for participants in individual and group classes. Assessed nutrition needs of individuals to recommend and prescribe diets based on health requirements and lab results. Plan operating costs for major and minor construction department renovation and make necessary capital purchases for a VA Medical Center Kitchen three clinics and two off site patient feeding locations. Wrote a grant and was funded for two portable kitchens for patient educations programs and meal service on hospital patient wards. Worked with Human Resources department to recruit and hire 3 chefs to prepare special diets and teach classes with dietitians to improve hospital meal service. These efforts dramatically improved patient participation in education programs while simultaneously raised inpatient meal satisfaction. Supervised two active duty dietitians Instruct clients on therapeutic and normal nutrition in hospital and community setting. Conduct calorie counts, analysis of lab results, tube feedings, TPN calculations, prenatal group classes, diabetic classes, discharge planning committee, gastric bypass support group, and train dietary staff in special diets. Grand Rounds speaker. Hospital food service and clinical dietitian due to deployment of active duty to Iraq. Patients included those evacuated from Iraq after injured in combat, families 6 enlisted and 29 civilian employees. Conducted staff education and training. Managed the food service department and branch medical clinics for nutrition support and patient care. Approved child development center menus ship menus and consulted to US Embassy Tokyo. Assisted in writing articles for Stars and Stripes newspaper did Health Scope interviews for Armed Forces Network television and radio spots for the Women Infant and Children program. Assisted with hiring selection and training of WIC Overseas dietitian and staff.
