Description
Following a fairly successful 20-year period of performing bench research in animal models, where I was trained and subsequently trained others in a number of laboratory procedures (see CV, pp. 7-9), my career gradually began to move toward administration. I spent a number of years writing papers, reviews, book chapters, and monographs, in addition to assisting on a number of grant applications for members of the Division of Endocrinology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. I began to devote more time to the operations of the Clinical Research Center (CRC) and in 1998 followed the GCRC Program Director into GCRC operations full-time, while also investigating the genetics of obesity and metabolic syndrome. I continued to draft manuscripts, grant applications, and reviews. When the GCRC program dissolved, I worked on the preparation of the CTSA Pilot Award, then assisted the Program Director in drafting and designing the new CTSA (CTSI I), which was ultimately funded in 2009. I was formally recognized as a scientific writer in 2012, where I began to assist young faculty with their grant applications and occasionally with manuscripts and related documents. I also served several administrative functions in the CTSI, and assisted the Clinical Trials Office with recruitment databases, including a year as MCW Liaison for ClinTrials.gov. I’ve worked at the Medical College for nearly 35 years, all told, and occupied my last position (in various guises, as my environment changed around me) for more than 32 years. My position was eliminated in March of 2016, but I am far from ready for retirement.
