of expertise and exceptional work ethic from a seasoned professional with experience overseeing all aspects of business operations, personnel management and programmatic oversight. Thrive DC COVER LETTER: Dear Employer, In response to your advertisement for the position of Director, Isolation with the American Association of Retired Persons I am forwarding my resume' for your review. Please consider this letter as my formal application presenting, in summary, my background and experience. This position seems a particularly good match, as I have over 25 years of experience in the design, development, management, administration and implementation of complex, multi-faceted public health, public policy and direct service programs. In my current capacity as the Executive Director of a local non- profit, Thrive DC, I have worked to provide a comprehensive range of services to the homeless and low- income community in the Washington DC metropolitan area. I am responsible for the overall management of innovative strategies in housing, income and hunger for many of this area's most challenged vulnerable and isolated individuals. In this role, I have utilized hard earned entrepreneurial and business acumen to significantly grow the organization, tripling the annual revenue, programming, effectiveness and visibility of the organization over the last 7 years. In 2016, I was honored to be awarded The Washington DC's Region Top Association and Non-profit Innovators Award as a result of accomplishments made in my sector. In addition to my role as Executive Director I have continuously served on Howard University's Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects for over 12 years, I have gained invaluable experience in the analysis, evaluation and communication of complex biomedical research related to a myriad of medical and public health topics and populations. My personal interest in this position was sparked because I have witnessed and worked to address the deleterious effects that loneliness and seclusion have on many client communities. Isolation, imposed by circumstances such as age, familial disengagement, poverty etc. manifests the same injurious results of cognitive and social disconnection that simply diminishes life. While many programs exist to assist with the tangible necessities, the most important of needs, meaningful social connection, is utterly neglected. I would sincerely embrace an opportunity to address this issue with zeal and in a robust and committed environment as that offered at AARP. I am confident that my advanced experience and skill set in program development, implementation, and human resource management coupled with years of successful non-profit administration, fiscal management/fundraising advocacy, coalition building and partner development, along with a tremendous dedication to hard work, makes for an excellent match of position and candidate. I look forward to an opportunity to meet and learn more about the position and organization as well as provide further details regarding my qualifications. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Alicia Horton JD MPH
