Summary Dr. Kortz is Board certified in General Surgery as well as in Thoracic Surgery and while practicing these two specialties he has accomplished the following that demonstrate his excellence in both clinical and administrative leadership: - President of his county medical society for two non-consecutive terms - Chief of Surgical Services at his principal hospital - Leader in the development of a cardiac surgical program at a companion hospital - Founder of a group of four surgeons (General, Thoracic, Transplant) - President of a Physician - Hospital Organization (PHO) that he had helped develop. - Corporate President of a physician-owned telephone answering service - Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Surgery, University of Colorado Medical Center - Founding member of the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce Task Force for Healthcare Reform. After leaving clinical practice he: - Served as a Volunteer Trail Ranger with the Jefferson County Open Space Division - Acquired a masters degree in Healthcare Systems (MHS) - Developed and then lead a new masters program in Healthcare Leadership for the University of Denver - Engaged as a consultant in Healthcare with a role as facilitator, mentor, and change leader. - Functioned as Chief Medical Officer for SkywriterMD, a Healthcare IT enterprise. His major interests are in organizational development, strategic planning, quality (as the basis of value in Healthcare). He is energized by a climate of change and its challenges.
