This was to be distributed to clients approximately 700 kilometers away via a new 24 inch Multi Product Pipeline and 5 pump stations. Design challenge was to allow for future expansion over a 20-year period of the new storage and proving facility and piping systems with minimal impact to the current design, which also included changing services of certain piping systems to incorporate this requirement. During my tenure at Transnet I was successfully involved in reviewing and awarding Piping and fitting supply contracts. My understanding on the current status of this project is that it is in the final stages of construction. * Piping Lead during a successful feasibility study and early detailed engineering at the existing Sasol Plant in Secunda which included work share with our Beijing Office. I was also afforded the opportunity to introduce PDS to a fairly new WorleyParsons Office in South Africa and successfully installed and setup PDS servers and end user PC`s this also included project setup and software installation in our Pretoria and Secunda offices it came after PDS Administration and RDB training in the WorleyParsons Office in London UK. After successfully setting up PDS I was seconded to the New Multi Product Pipeline Project to lead a team of Piping Designers. Senior PDS Piping Designer tasked with piping and equipment layout of the Sasol Wax Project in Secunda using innovative and cost effective techniques. Without compromising safety operability or maintainability TIC state was kept within 10% of budget. As with other brownfields plants the challenges were numerous but identifying decommissioned piping and equipment and removing them prior to engineering and designing the new Wax Plant proved to be an expensive exercise due to the complexity of interconnecting piping systems on an existing plant with the added fact that the P&ID`s were poorly as-built as the plant evolved. Responsible to mentor and direct junior designers due to my vast experience in Petrochemical Refineries. Promoted to Piping Section Leader Piping Lead overseeing 15 designers from various project disciplines which included piping mechanical civil structural and process designers to success on the Ambatovy Nickel project from early detail design to the completion of detailed engineering. The project was executed out of Boksburg South Africa and was being constructed in Madagascar. "The Two sulphur burning acid plants became the benchmarks for project design and execution in a constrained resource environment". It was posed to be amongst the largest producers of nickel and cobalt in the world.
