Daily Duties at Oracle America Inc.(Client Was Aerojet Corporation Rancho Cordova, California):
My day-to-day responsibilities for the Aerojet Conversion project were as follows: This project had been in progress for 1 year prior to me joining I was a Techncial team member along with 10 Functional Team members and 1 other Technical team member The client team conisted of about 20 people from Rancho Cordova Ca., Irvien Ca, Tennessee and many other states depending on where the manufacturing plants were located. I was responsible for managing all the documentation and development for the conversions/Interfaces done by the Offshore GSD team which included all CEMLI’s(These are customizations) We had a daily call at 8:00 P.M. to the Offshore project manager to discuss the status On a daily basis I would review the Functional and Technical conversion/Interface design documents to make sure they were all correct. I submitted a weekly status report to the Oracle project manager and this would be included in his weekly status report to the client. Internally the team had several design review sessions per week to discuss all the CEMLI's and their progress along with all the conversion statuses. We also had a weekly meeting with the client to discuss status My day-to-day responsibilities for the Aerojet Custom Labor Costing effort were as follows: About 5 months into the project I was then switched to be responsible for the Functional/Technical design of the Custom Labor Costing effort which was originally written in COBOL and there was no one on the project who was familiar with this programming language except me. I worked with one other resource from Irvine, Ca who wrote all the original code for the original labor costing My marching orders were to design a new solution for all their labor costing needs using the Oracle HCM(Human Capital Module). This was chosen because it is all configurable by an administrator. I worked in conjunction with the Functional SME(subject matter expert) for the HCM and together we came up with a solution. Once it was all set up then in order to make changes down the road there were no coding changes needed, just new configuration changes. This was going to be a huge savings for Aerojet because they did not have to have someone on staff for this effort or hire a contractor to make changes. Aerojet is a union shop and they were very strict on time cards and labor pay grade information I was tasked with creating the design, the Functional and Technical documents in 1 month. I accomplished this and I delivered the entire package to the client.
What they like about Oracle America Inc.(Client Was Aerojet Corporation Rancho Cordova, California):
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
