Daily Duties at Sinai Grace Hospital:

: After over 20 years of experience and realizing when I took this position no policies and protocols were in place I took it upon myself to start writing policies and protocols. I started with the treatment and weaning protocol to show that with our abilities and knowledge we could better quality patient care by using our knowledge to get a patient off the ventilator quicker and to delete a treatment if not needed or add a treatment if a patient really needed the order. I held meetings with the CEO, directors and managers of patient care and throughout the trial period it was a success showing that our knowledge only helped the patients get better care and to communicate with the RN to have sedation vacations so the patient was awake to do the correct weaning parameters to get the patient off the ventilator as needed. I also wrote a protocol for attendance and dress code. I didn’t want the employees to take advantage of calling in whenever they wanted and with the dress code policy the employees would look professional at all times. I also managed and/or coordinating all aspects billing including, scheduling, registration, treatment authorization, documentation, coding, charge entry, billing and collections. I did all hiring, terminating, did annual performance reviews for 76 employees, went over all productivity and missed therapy daily. Held monthly meetings letting employees know the changes that were being made throughout the hospital and having the employees giving input on how we could be more efficient and had them write their ideas up and we would try their ideas and see if it made a difference. Quality patient care was always number one so if we could improve our care it was important for them to show me and prove to me what we could do to improve the care and then we would change what we did if it worked through our trial period. I always let my employees know their opinion mattered so I put in a suggestion box and we would have meetings on the ideas so anyone that would want to come we could talk about the changes they felt needed and how we could implement the changes. Managed a new Hospice Unit considered to be the model for quality, compassionate care for people facing a life-limiting illness or injury, hospice care involves a team-oriented approach to expert medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support expressly tailored to the patient's needs and wishes in our community. Helped contribute to the IT operations through support for introduction of innovative technologies to help with the best quality. I improved customer service by speaking to the patients or calling them after their care was completed to make sure their care met the patient’s expectations if I did not get to them while their stay in the hospital I did mailings to their home with a questionnaire of their stay and what improvements they felt we could do. If a patient sent back a questionnaire that showed needed improvements I would personally call them and talk to them about their stay at the hospital and what we could do better to improve the care of patients.

What they like about Sinai Grace Hospital:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
