Daily Duties at St. Paul Fire And Marine Insurance Company:

I managed claims and litigation in KS and MO for medical malpractice, legal malpractice, products liability, general liability, automobile bodily injury, wrongful birth, wrongful death, professional teachers and professional insurance agents. I took recorded statements, set reserves, obtained medical records and reviewed them, did reports to the local office as well as the Home Office in St. Paul, MN on the more complicated claims. I handled the correspondence and phone calls with the various parties along with the negotiations. I managed the discovery process and the defense counsel. I quit to try and start a family. I also worked for St. Paul from November 1981 to November, 1982 in Baltimore, MD. I handled the same type of claims and litigation just for a different venue. Baltimore was a very liberal venue. I travelled all over the state doing investigation involving taking statements, obtaining medical records, taking photos, obtaining and meeting with experts of all backgrounds. I quit to move back to Kansas City. Also, at that time, St. Paul was cutting the office from a regional one to a local office and I didn't know if I would be sent to another office or have a job. I went back to Kansas City and continued to handle claims.

What they like about St. Paul Fire And Marine Insurance Company:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
