Lead the design, verification, synthesis and timing of the color and pixel shaders for 2 ASICs. Lead the modeling, microarchitecture, design, verification, synthesis and timing of the world’s first widely available Z compression / decompression unit. Co-wrote a tool in C++ to optimize texture cache performance and configuration. Received 6 patents. Designed, verified, synthesized and timed VHDL and Verilog RTL for 2 ASICs: R200: 250 MHz, 0.18µ GPU, known commercially as Radeon 200 and R100: 166 MHz, 0.25µ GPU, known commercially as Radeon 100. Designed a C++ model of the Z compression / decompression algorithm to perform an implementation feasibility study. Designed, verified, synthesized and timed the Z compression /decompression VHDL for R100. Designed a base ALU unit for R200 that implemented (A*B)+(C*D) in s.3.8 fixed point. Designed the R200 pixel shader around the ALU which added 4-16:1 input MUXs with optional 2’s comp, and optional post-ALU -0.5 offset and round or truncate. Managed 1 person in the design of the color shader based around the ALU. Designed a base ALU unit for R100 that implemented (A*B)+C in 9-bit 2’s comp. Designed the R100 pixel shader around the ALU which added 3-16:1 input MUXs with optional 2’s comp, and optional post-ALU -0.5 offset and round or truncate. Designed the R100 color shader around the ALU and added texture compression and decompression. Co-created a runtime-configurable cache model in C++. Wrote the shader blocks of the C++ emulator.
