Daily Duties at Mechanical Sales:

Outside sales engineer in Portland, OR branch office. Specialized in commercial/industrial hot water/steam equipment, such as boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, and related specialties. This branch went from $630,000 the first year, to 1.0M the 2nd year before departure. Established partnerships with mechanical consulting firms. Duties included technical support, negotiations, equipment selections, budget pricing, field support, and conducting seminars to promote creative concepts. Close interacted with plumbing wholesaler accounts, mechanical engineers and contractors. Achievements: Spearheaded an effort to formulate and convince a major design consultant on the merits of a single source, fully packaged, pre-wired and piped, skidded, multiple boiler and control system for a large cinema project in a new downtown high rise: Evaluated job requirements by employing software to calculate heat and pump loads. Result: Single source supplier for boiler plant equipment valued at over $105,000. Left when offered a buy-in opportunity for a sheet metal company. Spokane branch manager until transfer to Portland. Directed the daily activities of a staff of three focusing on the commercial and industrial HVAC market. Duties were split between [1] soul responsibility for implementing and directing the HVAC “airside” sales, and [2] sales management for the HVAC “wet-side” sales. Was solely responsible for branch operational and organizational leadership, sales activities, and sales forecasts. Supervised and performed blueprint take-offs, estimating, pricing, bids, contract negotiations, and equipment ordering. Networked with mechanical consultants, contractors, and wholesalers. Provided technical support and conducted training seminars on Tekmar microprocessor boiler controls. Developed and implemented a marketing plan that kept branch profitable every year. Over 5 years, achieved 49% increase in sales, and a 36% increase in net profit percentage. Achievement(s) Analyzed unique steam humidification application for Olin Rocket Research plant in Moses Lake. Provided ideas and assistance to the factory R & D department to modify a standard product for an outdoor application; negotiated a contract with Olin Rocket Research, and interceded between the factory and the mechanical contractor during construction. Result: Single largest order accepted by the factory, and the largest single branch sales office order ever negotiated ($380,000).
