Daily Duties at Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group :

Database Administrator SQL Server enterprise environment comprised of 150 + servers. The databases sizes ranges from small to over 600 gig. This environment is managed by five SQL Server database administrators. We are responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, configuration and optimizing of these databases. We manage change control through development, test and production adhering to a strict change control process that is SOX compliant. Standards are in place to ensure security, ability to recover from error, and enhance performance of the databases. Required activities are design, implement, maintain, monitor and administer complex databases combined with security, validation checks and space management. Perform daily full, incremental and transactional log backups including compressing backups. Backup software including SQL scripts and Embarcadero software. Create DTS/SSIS packages (data import, export and manipulation), tables, store procedures, indexes, roles, jobs, and login accounts. Maintain and create replication (merge, transactional, and snapshot) for SQL Server 2000. Install and upgrade of MS SQL Server (7.0, 2000, and 2005) including security patches. Working environment are Development, Test, Staging and Production systems. Worked closely with developers and business end users to understand and fulfill their business needs. Environments includes OLAP and OLTP, .NET, ASP, Crystal, Microsoft Reporting Service, Informatica, Microsoft Shared Portal. Programmer - Maintain, debug, and write existing/new programs for a 24-hour online system. System analysis and design requirements are performed for technical and user specifications. Existing legacy programs converted using embedded SQL and PL/SQL packages for a new relational database. Assisted new and junior programmers’ with code reviews and training in a new system. Documentation for each new program or code changes was performed. Meeting with users were established to obtain the necessary information for each new project.
