Daily Duties at K & Lm Enterprises:

Addressing small businesses involving the evaluation of needs, selection, installation, instruction and up-grades of a selected system for their specific application or a system of their choice. Included were HP-UX and Windows installations on a network. Any data migration and the continuation of maintenance of hardware and software followed this. Requirements were often to use a combination of scripts, batch files and GUI's to make the internal process "simple" for the user. System set-up and configuration: • Determination of system requirements and disk allocations • Creation of Ignite and Jumpstart systems • Creation of Golden image systems • Creation of patch depot • Establish mail, domains, security Routine System Admin/Operator duties included: • Checks of system/inter-system performance. Kernel tuning when required. • Data disk space verifications. (LVM) • System and Data back-ups. • Monitor file movements for completeness to run scheduled production tasks. • Verify and escalate any production problems. • User id administration • Trouble/problem tracking using Vantive or Remedy. • Mail/Sendmail, ftp, et. al. setup, test and monitoring • raining Other System Admin/Operator duties included: • New configuration (hard or software) installation, verification and test. • Installation and configuration of applications (Maestro, MeasureWare, Oracle, Tivoli, etc.) • High availability configurations using MC ServiceGuard • Installation of upgrades, emergency fixes, and patches to kernel, applications and databases. • Testplan design and implementation for QA and QC. Additional work was done in script writing (sh/csh/ksh ): • Monitors for daily processes. • Disk usage and analysis • User add/delete control/automation • Report writers for summaries of daily processes. • Special report generators. • Error condition notification via pager.
