Daily Duties at Racine Public Library:

Compiled records, sorted and shelved books and issued and received library materials such as books, films, slides and phonograph records. • Recorded identifying data and due dates on cards by hand and by using photographic equipment to issue books to patrons. • Inspected returned books for damage, verified due-date and computed and received overdue fines. • Reviewed records to compile list of overdue books and issued overdue notices to borrowers. • Sorted books, publications and other items according to classification code and returned them to shelves, files, and other designated storage areas. • Located books and publications for patrons. • Issued borrower's identification card according to established procedures. • Repaired books and placed plastic covers on new books. • Answered inquiries of nonprofessional nature on telephone and in person and referred persons requiring professional assistance to librarian. • Maintained library collections of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual and other materials and assisted groups and individuals in locating and obtaining materials. • Explained and assisted in use of reference sources. • Demonstrated procedures for searching catalog files.
