Daily Duties at Lockformer:

The Lisle plant ceased manufacturing operations in November. I have been hired to work at both the Cleveland and St.Louis facilities as a product manager to help have the products that had been previously manufactured. Responsibilities at Lisle was for the sheet metal fabrication area and also the assembly area where we build plasma cutting machines along with the paint area. This is a 73,000 sq. foot union facility supervising up to 22 people on a daily basis and also covering 60 personnel plant wide on an as need basis. Implemented many cost savings to the department, for example over $5000.00 a year in paint savings and less hazardous waste. This was accomplished by spending $90.00 and implementing a new way we close and open the paint area. Working with subordinates to implement cost savings to the assemblies and also saving machine shop time to make parts with a savings of over $30,000.00 per year. Duties also include making sure the raw materials necessary to make the parts needed, along with the component parts needed to either assemble or weld are available. Scheduling the work load as far as what must be made first and what needs to be assembled to meet the shipping schedule and meet the monthly goals. Work first hand with the EHS person to ensure OSHA and company safety rules are followed along with being on the safety committee and also served for a time on the Quality improvement and cost savings committee. We have had numerous production and inventory systems, including Kan Ban, M2M, and EMS. Recently took over 40 hours of training on Made 2 Manage, which is a new MIS system that the company plans to implement in the future, after the move. Recently worked part time in the Purchasing department since the retirement of the purchasing manager.

What they like about Lockformer:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
