Daily Duties at Seattle Vocational Institute:

Basic Skills Administrator/ (P/T) - Responsible for administration and managing of Basic skills program for college to include Adult Basic Education (ABE) English as Second Language (ESL) and GED programs. Manage seven instructors and over 250 multicultural and diverse students (cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds) in daily classes within the above categories. Interpret and implement state legislative and federal guidelines for program improvement and operation regarding Basic Skills, Workforce Development and WIA to college staff (Executive Dean, Dean of Instruction). Recruit, hire, train and supervise work of Basic Skills staff and work study students. Develop, implement and revise department curriculum, reviewing and ordering department textbooks. Develop new marketing strategies for community involvement and class locations. Write and monitor grants for department, seeking new grant opportunities for program enhancement. Monitor budget utilizing U.S. Dept of Ed. Guidelines and Washington State guidelines, preparing instructor workloads, sign contracts, timesheet, and other department budgetary expenses in conjunction with Budget Analyst. Represent college at local community and State meetings. Manage and provide program placement from Basic Skills into Vocational Programs. Other duties include recruitment, ensuring Washington State learning standards for Basic Skills and ESL are incorporated in to curriculum, public relations, grant writing and maintenance. Member of Washington State Council on Basic Studies and Seattle Community Literacy Consortium.
