Daily Duties at Howard Hughes Medical Institute:
Led a team of four engineers and technicians on a development project. Using the Nobel-prize winning PALM instrument, collected data, optimized alignment, installed EMCCD camera and laser for imaging at a second color. Reduced clients’ startup phases from 12 to 3 months. Designed, built apparatus with timing sequence for image field illumination, CCD data collection and subsequent PMT fluorescence collection. Increased client’s data-taking rate 20-fold by redesigning experiment suite. Utilized high-brightness LEDs in an apparatus imparting physical stimuli to fruit fly larvae in neuroscience experiments. Key technologies: PMTs, high-power lasers and LEDs, scientific cameras, motion control, mechatronics, microscopy.
