Cycorp Work Values

Daily Duties at Cycorp:

Developed meta-class ontology. Co-developed prototype mechanism to describe anatomy, allowing for individual variations. Redesigned CYC's handling of conceptual works. Moved Cycorp to focus on “deep issues” that had been by-passed in push for coverage in breadth. Designed set of rule-macro predicates for concisely stating common interrelationships among predicates and pairs of concepts. Helped design inference short-cuts. Coded NL rules for semantic parsing of noun-noun combinations. Detected and repaired faulty logical assertions made by coworkers; taught them how to avoid similar errors. Designed “rapid knowledge entry” tool; oversaw tool's coders and initial users. Designed technique to handle organizational/spatial dichotomy of countries, cities, etc. Taught CYC class. One of only three Cycorp “Ontological Architects” before title eliminated.

What they like about Cycorp:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
