Daily Duties at State College Police:

 Safeguarded the community through vigilant armed patrolling; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points.  Diligently prevented losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures; restraining trespassers when necessary.  Authored thorough and accurate investigative incident reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; in addition to interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects.  Investigated or assisted in investigations into all types of crimes to include; property crimes, crimes against vulnerable populations, harassment, theft, assaults, fraud, domestic violence, and homicides.  Cultivated new recruits as a field training officer, providing direct supervision, coaching, and mentoring.  Trained members of the department in firearms use, assisting with creating drills, acting as a safety officer, and directly instructing officers on firearms and tactical skills.  Taught 100’s of hours of first aid and AED use to over 80 police officers  Created and implemented the police department’s Naloxone program, in addition to writing policy for the program.  Responded to and managed mental health crisis’ as a crisis intervention officer.  Maintained organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.  Created, instituted, and presented active shooter/workplace violence training to nearly sixty different organization and thousands of individuals.  Executed nearly thirty physical security risk and vulnerability assessments for schools, medical offices, houses of worship, businesses, government agencies, retirement communities, and other organizations. (Consulted on a $146 million project soon after it was completed, which resulted in changes to make the facility more safe and secure for the occupants.)  Analyzed and provided recommendations for improvement t0 physical security programs and emergency action plans for a multitude of different organizations.  Controlled emergency response exercises to improve security programs and response for various organizations.  Designed PPT presentations and other training aids to provide training and education to members of the public on emergency response, physical security assessments, personal security, security protocols, and other topics.  Presented at five state-wide conferences and six regional conferences on various topics to include personal and site security.  Organized and managed a full-scale active shooter drill consisting of three police departments, FBI, PA attorney general’s office, four EMS agencies, fire department, 911 center, and EMA.  Chartered an eight-week citizen’s police academy.  Facilitated a committee consisting of police and EMS departments, code officials, university officials, municipal officials, and district magistrates which collaborated to form high impact results on emerging community issues.  Supervised a paid internship program; overhauled the program to add additional positions and attract a diverse workforce.  Operated as a liaison to Penn State University (PSU) Office of Student, PSU Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, and PSU Office of Fraternity and Sorority Compliance.
