Daily Duties at American Red Cross, Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter:

Upon hire, The Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter budget was $4M and the chapter was in deficit budgeting using reserves to fund operations. The Board was preparing major staff reductions. Developed strategic plan to reduce deficit budgeting with no reduction in headcount. Influenced approval for the strategy and restructured all job functions and operational processes. Created revenue generation strategies including selling safety training to businesses, the launch of new fundraising initiatives and an aggressive PR campaign promoting the organization. Result: Increased the budget to over $6M in two years. Staffing levels increased from 45 to 60 with an average position salary increase of over 20%. Five hurricanes hit the South Florida jurisdiction in 2004-2005. Led the effort to shelter, feed, provide mental health counseling and raise funds to fuel the Red Cross recovery effort. Result: Over 175,000 individuals were sheltered, 6.8M meals provided, 1M mental health contacts made and $35M in donations raised. Increased branding and media exposure to over 150 hours of TV and radio interview coverage. Was the direct point of contact in working to coordinate response with local and state government officials. Took the lead role in educating Florida local and state government officials and strategic partners on disaster preparedness and response as well as Health and Safety training. Built support for the Red Cross Health and Safety training as a recognized state and federal standard. There were a record number of drowning’s in South Florida due to ocean rip currents. Developed, launched and managed a campaign (Ride the Wave to Safety) to reduce the number of deaths. Result: In a two year period 75,000 children were trained in swimming and water safety; 500 new volunteers were recruited and trained and over $1M in donations were raised. See less
