Daily Duties at Windsor Public Schools:

Responsibilities include running a Health Room in a school of 300 students & 60 staff members. Reviewing incoming physicals & immunizations to assure they meet State of CT Requirements. Assessing & treating medical & emotional problems of students & staff. Writing Care Plans & Emergency Plans for students with various medical conditions. Overseeing 8 Nurses in 6 schools & helping them problem solve. Educating the Nurses as State Laws, Regulations, Statutes & OSHA requirements change. Interviewing, hiring, supervising and orienting Nurses. Arrange speakers & in-services for Professional Education days. Plan & run monthly Nursing staff meetings. Confer with the Medical Advisor as needed. Observe & evaluate the Nurses. Teach staff, exposure risks of Blood Borne Pathogens. Teach staff what symptoms to watch for in someone experiencing an allergic reaction and anaphylaxis. Teach staff Epi Pen administration. Arrange Flu Clinics for staff members. Obtained Grant for AED’s in the school system. Arrange classes for staff to become & maintain certification in BLS & AED. Liaison between the BOE and the Public Health Nurse, Physician & Risk manager. Updating Board of Education medical policies & procedures to be in accord with State regulations. Medical representative for Safety & Wellness Committee for school system. Attend School nurse Supervisor conferences.
