Daily Duties at Norfolk Southern Railway:
Run daily operations at 3 rail yards (1 large, 2 small) and make strategic and time critical decisions for 150 miles of territory to move freight efficiently and deliver it either across the division or to the customer. Interact with and am point of contact for over 70 local businesses and major customers in the region. Maintain customer relationships and make sure they are getting proper servicing and deliveries. In charge of budgeting ($12.7 million terminal budget and $2.1 million line of road budget) that does not including payroll. Directly in charge of 6 supervisors and over 160 union employees on a daily basis. Go over daily metrics sheets and reports to better formulate plans on how to constantly improve connection times, speed on the railroad, and customer satisfaction. Work with and direct other departments to improve rail performance. Talk with and go over safety checks and injury reports to improve and make new stand operating procedure bulletins. Come up with daily maintenance schedules to better address issues with down time in classification yard. Compile studies, review industry trends, and communicate with all departments to come up with capital improvement projects and present them to the COO, VP of operations, and Divisional staff.
