Daily Duties at Barnes & Noble:
• Responsible for the daily operations of the store, ensuring that all operations are consistent with the culture, customer service focus, multi-channel retailing and merchandising standards of Barnes and Noble. • Actively recruited, interviewed, selected, evaluated and developed employees; fostering an employee-centric environment while maximizing sales productivity. • Responsible for operations of food service in the café department. Insured that safety and cleanliness standards were maintained. Possess Suffolk County Department of Health Food Safety Certificate. • Supervised the shipping and receiving department. Incoming carton counts averaged between 150-500 cartons daily (depending on seasonality). Successfully implemented and executed procedures and plans for increased efficiency and productivity in the receiving department. • Executed workload planning compiling raw (transaction based) data files in order to provide staffing for a 31,000 square foot, multi-level retail space while assuring that customers receive world-class service and payroll objectives were met. Exceeded yearly payroll expectation through effective planning. • Created daily assignment sheets based on workload planning needs utilizing proprietary staffing software and Excel which detailed the location, work assignments and break periods for all employees. • Responsible for the scheduling and staffing of over fifty (50) direct reports. • Prepared and delivered performance management documentation, improvement plans and yearly performance reviews. Developed learning plans to improve performance and productivity of all staff. • Achieved outstanding payroll results for ten (10) consecutive years through effective planning, forecasting and implementation of meaningful cross-training programs. • Drove sales by identifying opportunities and tailoring merchandise selection to local customer demographic. Exceeded sales projections for nine years. • Planned and executed thirteen (13) physical inventories in three (3) locations; overseeing the Barnes & Noble staff as well as the staff of the inventory company. • Delivered inventory results showing less than 1.5% shrink ten consecutive years, with the past four (4) years showing a shrink percentage of less than 1%. • Reviewed monthly and yearly P&L statements monthly to identify opportunities for bottom line improvement. • Compiled and analyzed raw data in order to identify and implement efficiencies with regard to productivity. Made recommendations to senior management regarding the improvement of productivity, customer service and operational performance. • Coordinated facilities and building management, partnered with various levels of corporate management (as well as outside vendors) to assure optimal performance of systems such as electrical, janitorial, plumbing, HVAC, elevators and escalators. • Performed and evaluated internal audits to ensure compliance with Integrated Store Operations and the protection of company assets.
