Daily Duties at St Paul Companies:
Initially onboarded to market and underwrite with the Service Industries Unit in major markets across the Mid-West and Northwest regions while focused on writing large, loss responsive, bundled and unbundled accounts. Transferred to Baltimore in 1999 to spearhead large account underwriting for the Construction & Local Middle Markets team throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Collaborated with the St. Paul/USF&G transition team and outside consultants to help smooth the merger of the two companies and develop new synergies to drive success. Partnered with senior management to develop improved training programs for underwriters and referral underwriters for large Mid-Atlantic accounts. Directly negotiated and purchased all reinsurance purchases for the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. Assumed lead point for hiring, training, mentoring, and performance managing all account executives and underwriting support personnel. Worked closely with HR on staff member improvement plans and reduction in force (RIF) evaluations.
What they like about St Paul Companies:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
