Daily Duties at U S West / Qwest / Century Link:

As a MVS Performance and Tuning specialist I monitored the performance of 10 MVS Operating Systems and the I/O subsystems. I interfaced directly with the clients to resolve performance problems and to help them tune their applications. I shared with client’s new technology and products that came available for performance considerations by working directly with vendors. I provided input to new applications running on the system and analyzed what impacts they might have. I worked closely with capacity planners to provide them with performance information so they could make financial decisions for purchasing new hardware. I monitored and produced reports daily to look for performance bottlenecks and make adjustments where needed. As a UNIX system administrator I supported mainly HP-UX systems for about 100 servers. I also achieved an outside certification for HP-UX System Administration. I setup new systems, retired old systems, applied patches, did user administration, and at times supported complex subsystems such as DCE for distributed processing and other fail-over software.
