Daily Duties at Invitation Homes/Blackstone Investments:
• General Counsel and Broker for the state. • Legal management of all acquisitions in the state of Florida and all property management issues involved with numerous REITs and various corporate entities. • Advise on numerous commercial purchases throughout the Southeast United States. • Handle all construction disputes within the state. • Responsible for reporting of all corporate documentation for six offices of the company in three states for SEC filings as well as corporate documentation. • Resolve certain degree of construction matters personally as a cost benefit to the corporation. • Manage outside counsel on construction litigation. • Construction vendor contract and compliance manager to insure compliance with OSHA, workers comp, code enforcement, and other regulations and guidelines for our rehab, turns and maintenance departments. • Lead counsel in all employment issues for the southeast including wage and hour issues, benefits and litigation matters. • Manage all insurance matters in the state and southeast including property insurance, general liability insurance matters, large scale wind disaster preparation matters and risk assessment. • Manage and monitor all claims for the state, and day to management of internal and outside counsel/paralegals. • Solely responsible for all legal matters in the state of Florida. Manage $3 billion of assets in the state, 15,000 units and over 500 employees. • Attend all hearings and legal proceedings for the state on behalf of corporation in insurance litigation, construction litigation, real estate litigation, employment litigation, evictions, code enforcement, etc. • Manage paralegals, attorneys, document management personnel, and code enforcement personnel to handle any legal matter that might arise in Florida. • Primary legal interpreter and executive of the following regulations for the state: FCRA, RESPA, PTFA, TILA, ADA, Federal Tax Code, FREC, DBPR, FDCPA, FHA, HUD, and other state and federal guidelines. • Day to day responsibility for all litigation and legal resolution regarding, real estate transactions, evictions, construction disputes, employee litigation, homeowners associations, and other various disputes a large multistate corporation must contend with on a daily basis. • Responsible for mitigating and responding to any media investigations or social media complaints in the state. • Solely responsible for all human resource matters in the state including fair housing trainings, labor and employment training, management training, policy drafting, and vetting all possible employment disputes. • Promoted three times within my first four months of employment. • Compliance officer for the state including review of compliance matters for the Southeast and national offices. • Draft, review and revise multiple contracts regarding vendors, plaintiffs, and other interested parties. • Interpret, modify, review and sign off on hundreds of transaction regarding real estate, outside vendor contracts, confidentiality agreements, etc. • Policy and compliance enforcement executive of all violations in the Florida offices. • Weekly travel to all offices in Florida, as well as to Dallas and Atlanta, to address any legal issues, training, or resolution necessitating legal involvement. • Primarily responsible for all legal aspects of contract negotiations in the state and several national projects. • Primarily responsible for all risk management and disaster recovery issues in the state. • Responsible for all document management in relation to risk management and acquisitions in the state. • Managed significant aspects of operations touching on legal department including but not limited to: property management, eviction, leasing, homeowners associations, accounting, employee relations, and construction disputes. • Solely responsible for multiple criminal investigations in the state including evidence gathering, discovery, termination, and mitigating any law enforcement involvement. • Liaison between employees, management, middle management, and upper management to resolve issues regarding HR or conflict resolution. • Occasional management of entire Southeast legal operations including the Atlanta and Charlotte offices.
