Daily Duties at Michigan State University:
1. Process optimization and improvements: Successfully designed a novel research and discovered new effective metal-ligand complexes for Copper catalyzed-Alkaline Hydrogen Peroxide (Cu-AHP) pretreatment. Successfully published the first ever research on inventing a positive correlation between cell wall metal content and product yields. Successfully contributed towards improving a pre-treatment process with addition of an alkali pre-extraction step, that ultimately increased product yields from 60% to 95%. Led a collaborative project as a team leader for optimization of yeast to effectively ferment Cu-AHP hydrolysate. Utilizing knowledge from chemical genomics and LC-MS data, I successfully engineered a yeast strain that effectively fermented the hydrolysate to produce ethanol with higher yields. 2. Analytical experience: Identification of aromatics in the hydrolysate utilizing LC-MS Completed an in-depth LC-MS, GCMS and HPLC training and utilized this knowledge to successfully design and develop methods to detect and quantitate ligno-toxins obtained after chemical oxidative treatment of plant biomass. 3. Supervision and team-work I have supervised research assistants in the team and made presentations at regular group and external meetings. I performed thorough scientific literature review in microbiology, analytical chemistry and biochemistry 4. Writing skills Published four research articles and filed one patent. Assisted in writing projects for obtaining research funding
