Daily Duties at Galveston County Criminal District Attorney's Office:
As the first assistant, I supervised 27 attorneys in the Felony, Misdemeanor, Appellate and Family Law sections. I planned, managed, and directed the overall operations of the office, including the directing and coordinating an extensive and diverse staff. Prosecuted the most serious and high-profile cases. Co-managed the D.A.’s office – defined and implemented policies, conducted performance evaluations, and ensured proper training of attorneys. Often reviewed legislation and adjusted office procedures accordingly and communicated changes to law enforcement agencies. Effectively and efficiently reviewed, evaluated, established and enforced goals, objectives, standards, methods, policies and procedures. Represented the D.A.’s office to the media and the community, including providing presentations to associations and citizen groups and training sessions for law enforcement agencies. Had to work collaboratively to establish rapport and build credibility with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders. Prosecuted the most serious and high-profile cases – tried complex cases involving extensive and thorough research and preparation and negotiated resolutions and plea bargains.
