Daily Duties at Process Engineering Associates Llc:
Senior Process Engineer for the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) preliminary design and detail design efforts at the Y-12 National Security Complex (Y-12) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Project elements included the preparation and/or review of: process flow diagrams (PFDs); piping and instrument¬ation diagrams (P&IDs); material and energy balance calculations; design and analysis calculations (DACs); alternatives evaluations / reports; operating mode summaries (OMSs); process layouts; System Design Descriptions (SDDs); safety basis documents (e.g. criticality safety and facility safety); equipment specifications; and grading worksheets (GWS) preparation. All UPF design tasks were conducted under stringent project change control. All process design changes were stringently documented and approved utilizing trends, redlined drawings, and other baseline change documentation.The UPF project experience led to a familiarity with Y-12 Engineering standards and procedures, uranium recovery and manufacturing design, nuclear criticality and facility safety analyses, Engineering Document Control System (EDCS), InfoWorksTM, ProjectWise, Arbortext®, and most Microsoft computer software.
