Daily Duties at Federal Civil Service:

I am the Project Manager for the Global Content Delivery Service (GCDS) for DISA. I over-see and manage all current on-going projects for four (4) different GCDS services, Web Application Delivery, Web Application Firewall, NetStorage, and HD Streaming. I contact each customer on a recurring basis and ensure GCDS is meeting their expectations as outlined in the Letter Estimates and Service Request Agreements. I also speak with their technical team members to determine if there are any additional requirements. Additionally, I am the project manager for all new levels of effort and new customer workloads that fall out-side the four core services reference above. An example of this level of effort would be the integration of the Army Knowledge Online Single Sign On into GCDS. As each new level of effort is on-boarded, I over-see the project from inception to successful integration. I work with the customer and the GCDS technical team in developing the Service Request Form identifying the work requested and contracting on contract development. For each project, I ensure all work performed fits within the scope of the existing contract. If necessary I work with the contract office in amending the existing contract to fit the new project or if a new contract will be required. If a new contract is required, I work with the contracting office in the development and a new contract. I assist in either a modification of the existing Statement of Work (SOW) or if necessary the development of a new SOW as part of a new contract or a contract modification. I draft and complete a Concept of Operations (CONOPS) Document to ensure project boundaries are determined and followed. I assist with determining and documenting all contract deliverables. I also ensure there are adequate resources available to meet the project requirements. I work with the Information Assurance team members (Identify Access Manager (IAM) and the Certified Information Security Manger (CISM)) in ensuring the programs Authority to Operate (ATO) is maintained. I work with the IAM and CISM on ensuring the security integrity of the project. For each project, I ensure the critical path items are on schedule and each project date is met. When a scheduled date is in jeopardy, I work with the program manager and the vendor and realign resources to ensure there is no date slippages. I continually brief upper management and vested partners on the schedule and progress of the projects I manage. I engage the customer on a regular basis and brief the customer on the project, project dates and tasks met, percentages of completion for each task, future milestones, and project implementation updates. I work with the project team on all implementation and testing issues, plans, quality assurance and testing issues, and plans to remedy any issues discovered during the implementation. I work with the implementation team in ensuring the project stays on track within scope and no scope creep occurs.

What they like about Federal Civil Service:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
