Daily Duties at University Of California Riverside:
I was hired by the Technology Department to manage and maintain the Point-of-Sale system that was operated by the Housing and Dining Department. I would resolve issues with the systems hardware and database. When there was an issue I would get a message from the IT Department's Help Desk, I would go to the location and evaluate the situation. I would troubleshoot the issue, the issue could be resolved by either running a repair utility, to replacing a failed part, restaging and reprogramming a workstation, or escalating the issue to the infrastructure group to resolve a network issue. There are times that I needed to contact the Point-of-Sale manufacture to order replacement parts, or get assistance in resolving complex software issues. I would also train other IT staff members to repair issues with the equipment. I would also attend department meetings, to provide my expert analysis on the operation, and any questions that needed to be answered concerning the Point-of-Sale system.
What they like about University Of California Riverside:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
