Daily Duties at Mele Associates, Inc.:

Advised on legal, policy and program issues over wide variety of telecommunications, national security and renewable energy matters. As General Counsel I provided legal advice to the firm principals, worked with outside counsel on litigation matters, and lead a seminar on appropriate lobbying practices. As Vice President I lead a the Telecommunications and Broadband team to provide strategic advice to a major telecommunications association and to write a grant application for a client interested in a broadband telecommunications grant. This included educating the association about the legislative, regulatory and funding mechanisms for a specific federal broadband telecommunications program. Further, I supervised a team of in-house and outside professionals to identify potential clients, develop a client pricing list, and to work with the client to research, write and submit a broadband telecommunications grant proposal to a federal agency. As Vice President I was the company's lead Strategic Advisor and Subject Matter Expert (Top Secret/Q Clearance) in legal, policy and regulatory issues supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI) in domestic conversion and protection of radiological material, and the removal of unwanted radiological material through the Offsite Source Recovery Program (OSRP). I supported the DOE Co-Chair of a focus group which delivered two reports to an interagency coordinating committee by attending and reporting on meetings, performing legal and regulatory research, writing and editing deliverables, and providing advice on negotiations with the other participants. In addition, I summarized regulatory comments, attended meetings of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and advised on how to work with Congressional offices to educate about changes in policy. As Vice President and General Counsel, I worked with the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Team to write grant applications; and also researched and drafted legislative language to promote legislative changes in tax law affecting renewable energy.

What they like about Mele Associates, Inc.:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
