Daily Duties at Solvay Specialty Polymers:
- Perform all required safety procedures applicable to product manufacture in the chemical processing units. - Acting project manager, utilizing proprietary project tracking software - Responsible for leading 6 Pilot Plant projects from concept to SOP Up to $6 Million USD - Daily meetings with project team responsible to maintain the LOP (list of open points) keeping cross-functional project team accountable - Experienced in multiple process technologies including: De-Volatilization, Distillation, Absorption, Filtration, Extrusion and Extraction. - Experienced processing knowledge of specialty polymers such as Aromatic polyamides, Aromatics, Sulfones Fluorinated Fluids, Fluoropolymers, High Performance Polyester, Polyethylene, Polyolefin, Polyvinylidene Chloride - Plan, design and build new Pilot Plant process from scratch - Process pipe and tubing design and implementation. - Project cost accountability - Procuring any items or equipment for the plant. - Write and implement SOP - Make inspections and checklists for pollution control devices. - Complete quarterly (JSA) Job Safety Analysis - Accomplish all tasks that are required to operate the chemical processing unit at the facility. - Knowledge of chemical processing equipment including reactors, feeders, heat exchangers, piping networks, hoses, pumps, valves, instruments, vessels, scales, tanks, scrubbers, meters, etc. - Prepare Work Orders as required to maintain the operating units. - Do major service maintenance on equipment as defined by the Operation Manager. - Execute troubleshooting abilities to properly identify causes of production equipment and process upsets. - Perform DCS navigation; DCS trouble shooting, DCS operation such that the process can be safely and efficiently controlled. - Demonstrate advanced PC skills required for electronic communications, maintenance work orders, incident/accident reporting, and data retrieval (MSDS). - Ability to efficiently and accurately communicate and work with peers, superiors, engineers, and other unit personnel, and in a constructive manner. - Ability to effectively train peers on all aspects of the R&D Technician job responsibilities.
