Daily Duties at University Of Kentucky College Of Medicine:

Assist graduate students in experiments and carry out experiments independently. I've highlighted the projects I worked on below. o Performed in vivo chronoamperometry in the striatum and nucleus accumbens of Fischer 344 (F344) rats in order to differentiate how local application of amphetamine isomers effect dopamine release. o Performed survival surgeries where glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) was administered to the striatum of aged F344 rats. One month later, I performed reverse microdialysis which showed a GDNF associated increase in evoked dopamine release. o Trained and assisted a graduate student to perform microdialysis studies of D-amphetamine-evoked striatal dopamine overflow in young versus aged F344 rats. o Monitored locomotor activity following intraperitoneal injections of fluoxetine, sertraline, and nomifensine in young versus aged F344 rats. o Measured K(+)-evoked striatal dopamine overflow in aged F344 rats treated with nomifensine using in vivo reverse microdialysis.
