Daily Duties at Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division (Irs Cid) :
As a special agent with Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation Division (IRS-CID), I conducted criminal tax and financial fraud investigations relating to violations of Title 26 (Internal Revenue Code), Title 18 (Federal Criminal Code), and Title 31 (Bank Secrecy Act) of the United States Code (USC). The major criminal offenses I investigated included tax evasion, money laundering, false claims, false statements, conspiracy, and bankruptcy fraud. The tax fraud investigations I conducted examined both legal and illegal sources of income to individuals and corporations. My investigative duties included interviewing subjects and witnesses of investigations, as well as examining physical evidence obtained by means of administrative subpoenas, federal grand jury subpoenas, and search warrants. I investigated organizations with complex organizations and financial structures, with parent and subsidiary activities in offshore locations. I utilized various methods for discovering concealed evidence of ownership interests. I examined complex accounting systems belonging to corporations and businesses. I worked on federal task forces, and coordinated joint investigations with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. I utilized specialized investigative techniques, such as audio and video technical surveillance, undercover agent operations, covert informant operations, forensic laboratory support, polygraph examinations, and computer analysis of criminal intelligence and evidence. I planned, conducted, and led large-scale enforcement operations in support of federal search warrants, arrest warrants, seizure warrants, and surveillance operations. I prepared affidavits for federal search warrants and arrest warrants, and conducted lawful arrests based on probable cause. I coordinated investigations with United States Attorneys and other Department of Justice trial attorneys in support of criminal prosecution of investigative subjects. I prepared detailed investigative reports in support of investigative referrals to Department of Justice attorneys for criminal prosecution. I prepared witnesses for appearances before federal grand juries, criminal trials, and other judicial proceedings. I testified for the government at criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. I served as an agent of the federal grand jury, presented evidence to the federal grand jury, and operated under the secrecy provisions of Rule 6(e), Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. I underwent a background investigation for this position.
