Daily Duties at United States Department Of Interior Office Of Inspector General :
As a special agent with Department of the Interior (DOI)-Office of Inspector General (OIG), I was responsible for conducting complex and sensitive investigations involving DOI programs and operations. These investigations included violations of Title 18 (Federal Criminal Code) of the United States Code and other federal laws, regulations, and departmental policies. My investigations involved contract and grant fraud, embezzlement, money laundering, bribery, gratuities, conflicts of interest, false statements, false claims, and conspiracy, involving DOI employees, contractors, and grantees. I reviewed complaints and allegations for investigative merit, and made recommendations to DOI officials regarding the appropriate referral of these matters. I conducted interviews and obtained sworn statements from witnesses and subjects of investigations. I prepared affidavits and executed search warrants and arrest warrants, and conducted lawful arrests based on probable cause. I seized and maintained custody of evidence used in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. I obtained evidence using administrative subpoenas and grand jury subpoenas, and analyzed evidence for probative value. I wrote detailed reports of investigation in support of investigative referrals to DOJ attorneys for criminal and civil prosecution. I prepared investigative reports in support of investigative referrals to agency officials for administrative action. I testified for the government at criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. I served as an agent of the grand jury, presented evidence to the grand jury, and operated under the secrecy provisions of Rule 6(e), Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. I utilized specialized investigative techniques, such as audio and video technical surveillance, undercover operations, confidential informant operations, forensic laboratory support, polygraph, and computer analysis of criminal intelligence and evidence. I coordinated with federal task forces and conducted joint investigations with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. I conducted mission briefings and fraud awareness training for DOI officials. I underwent a background investigation for this position.
