Daily Duties at United States Department Of Justice Office Of Inspector General :

As a special agent with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)-Office of Inspector General (OIG), I am responsible for conducting sensitive and complex investigations involving DOJ programs and operations. These activities include alleged violations of the Federal Criminal Code (i.e. Title 18, United States Code) and other federal laws, rules, and regulations. I investigate contract and grant fraud, theft of government funds, bribery, gratuities, kickbacks, conflicts of interest, false statements, false claims, and conspiracy, relating to DOJ employees, contractors, and grantees. I review complaints and allegations for investigative merit. I interview witnesses and interrogate subjects of investigations, and administer oaths and obtain sworn statements from these individuals. I obtain evidence using Inspector General subpoenas and federal grand jury subpoenas. I prepare affidavits and execute federal search warrants and arrest warrants. I conduct lawful arrests based on probable cause. I seize and maintain chain of custody of evidence used in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. I write detailed reports of investigation and other investigative memoranda in support of investigative activities. I make investigative referrals to the United States Attorney’s Office and other DOJ components, in support of criminal, civil, and administrative actions. I testify for the government at criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. I prepare witnesses for grand jury and trial. I serve as an agent of the federal grand jury, and present evidence to the grand jury. I operate under the legal and secrecy provisions of Rule 6(e), Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. I coordinate investigations with other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. I utilize specialized investigative techniques, such as audio and video technical surveillance, undercover operations, confidential informant operations, forensic laboratory analysis, polygraph examination, and computer analysis of criminal intelligence and evidence. I work on investigative teams with other OIG investigators, auditors, and analysts. I liaison with DOJ officials and counterpart federal law enforcement agencies. I conduct OIG mission briefings and fraud awareness training for DOJ employees and grantees. I have a current Top Secret Security Clearance, awarded March 19, 2013.
