Daily Duties at Gurdon Public Schools:
As the instructional leader, I am responsible for everything that happens or fails to happen in our school. We have 25 staff members and nearly a 250K budget (responsible for coding and allocating that budget) to ensure all our students are college and career ready. Further, I have ensured our professional staff is resourced and pre-pared with the necessary content and classroom management knowledge to make sure our students are ready for the “real’ world. We have decreased ill-discipline through the strict enforcement of standards by 65% and increased daily attendance by 9% over last year (ADM 96%). We have adopted the Literacy Design and Math Design Collaborative and have become the model school for our Coop. We have increased the Literacy and Math scale scores on ACTAAP by 10%. Despite not adopting the “New Tech” design, we have included many of the same project-based and technology based learning opportunities for our students. Constant visibility in the classrooms and all over campus has established a culture of trust and self-discipline among students. Being visible in our community has enabled me to involve all our stakeholders in our mission. I have engaged our coop instructional specialists and our district facilitators along with our LEA Supervisor in all facets of our instructional program. I have increased our use of technology to a daily basis in each classroom by demanding that lesson planning include the use of technology.
