Daily Duties at Ben Taub General Hospital:
Direct Patient Care: I round daily with either the Hematology or Oncology service lines, providing support to both at all times. I compose individualized, meaningful and detailed progress notes on each patient actively receiving chemotherapy or admitted with complications arising from treatment, in addition to Clinical Pharmacy consults, document and communicate my recommendations as appropriate. I prepare all chemotherapy orders, and dose adjustment when necessary. I review with the Attending Hematologist or Oncologist, discuss any concerns, obtain their authorization submit to Nursing, and discuss/coordinate with pharmacy operations when necessary. Teaching/Lectures: I developed a lecture series for the Baylor Hematology and Oncology Fellows, covering a variety of topics specific to antineoplastic medications, supportive care, and our organization. I develop and present other educational material as necessary or as requested by nursing, pharmacy and physicians. I am a licensed preceptor with the TSBP, and routinely have pharmacy students and/or residents on rotations with me. I worked with our Residency Program Director to include Hematology and Oncology as a required core rotation for our PGY1 program. Committee Membership/meetings: Multi-Disciplinary Tumor Board (weekly), Beacon Protocol Validation and Standardization (weekly), MD Anderson IRB 5 (biweekly), Oncology Subcommittee (bimonthly), Cancer Committee (monthly), Cancer Care Program Steering Committee (monthly), Residency Council (monthly), and others as necessary or requested.
