Daily Duties at Wb Services:

WB Services contracted with me to design three different biofuel units and mentor junior engineers on how to manage projects from conception to operation; 1.) Design a pre-polishing unit to remove the multiple corn oil contaminants from the feedstock they chose to hydrocrack into renewable diesel. 2.) Design a biodiesel transesterification unit which could convert distillers corn oil into biodiesel by either conventional transesterification or enzymatic treatment. 3.) Design a distillation unit capable of distilling contaminated biodiesel into ASTM quality fuel for commercial sale. I assigned junior engineering teams one of the projects and walked them through each stage of how to manage design from conception, calculations and specifications through creating the engineering drawings and getting quotes for the equipment. Weekly meetings were held with all the engineers from all three teams to cross-train everyone on issues they needed to address. Process Hazard Analysis were conducted multiple times to help them understand the ramifications of oversights or design mistakes. I wrote the Operating Manuals for them to review and address the fine details of operating these plants. We completed the distillation and polishing facilities first, and both performed as designed, which was 75% cheaper than outside companies had quoted WB prior to my arrival. The transesterification unit project was stopped due to loss of industry interest.
