Daily Duties at Alagoas:
Alagoas formed a confidential US-Brazilian joint venture to commercialize a novel ethanol processing system recently developed. I was contracted with to taking the lab's bench-top process and convert it into a full scale plant design. PFD's and P&IDs were developed with mass-energy calculations made for line and equipment sizing. With the aide of two Brazilian engineers we launched the Green-field project which was completed in January of 2016. Multiple HAZOP/PHA meetings were held to review Brazilian requirements and restrictions as this process required using some very dangerous chemicals. After all our preparations were completed the drawings were issued to Brazilian engineers to construct the plant, which went on-line in January 2016. The novel processing method increased sugarcane to ethanol yield 30% with no increase in operating expense.
